Voices of Innovation:
Meet the MOTIVATORS of MOTIVE

ID : Dionysus

Q1. Hello, Dionysus. Could you please introduce yourself?

I started my career as a structural designer and have since gained extensive experience in designing bridges and airport structures.
I've also supervised marine bridges (like suspension bridges), conducted structural reviews, and provided advisory supervision for highway sites.
It's been 22 years already."

Q2. What motivated you to participate in MOTIVE?

I learned about MOTIVE through an acquaintance. As I met many talented people who had gained a wealth of knowledge through their projects, I couldn't help but feel like their valuable insights were not being shared enough. It was then that I realized the need to bridge this gap and make this knowledge accessible to more people. That inspired me to get involved with MOTIVE.

Q3. Is there a reason you chose the modular shoring system for the topic?

I observed that in practice, the original contractor had delegated the design of the temporary structure to a subcontractor who lacked a thorough understanding of the structural specifications, failed to adhere to the latest standards, and merely altered the input values without consulting the pre-existing structural calculations. This prompted me to share my knowledge of the modular shoring system.

Q4. Have you ever written information or know-how in a written format?

I have written about it in my personal blog, but my skills are not at the level of disclosure.

Q5. How do you feel after writing content?

Well, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to say in my content, but I also knew I had to be careful not to convey any wrong facts.
So, I made sure to really focus on finding the right criteria and getting feedback from others.
It was a great learning experience and definitely helped me improve my skills. Thank you for this opportunity.

Q6. Did you have any difficulties writing the content?

There was no particular difficulty, but it took longer than I thought. It was a valuable time for me to develop myself.

Q7. Do you plan to create any additional content?

If there is anything else I would like to share, I would be happy to participate again.

Q8. Can you say a word to other engineers who are hesitant to participate?

You guys are truly amazing people. It's easy to underestimate the value of our own knowledge and assume that what we know is common sense. However, the truth is that what may seem like common knowledge to us can actually be new and unfamiliar to others.
This is why I strongly believe that knowledge becomes even more powerful when it's shared.
So please don't hesitate to participate and share your expertise with others.

Q9. Would you recommend MOTIVE participation to your colleagues?

I agree with the purpose of MOTIVE, so I will recommend it to my colleagues.

Q10. MOTIVE aims to be a communication space for engineers as well as a place for information sharing among engineers. What do you think about the purpose and direction of MOTIVE?

I fully support the MOTIVE's purpose and direction. If some people believe that sharing knowledge or data is a breach of personal or company technology, then they are not obliged to participate. For those who do choose to participate, we can do so in a way that respects those boundaries and ensures that we are not sharing any confidential information.

Thank you sincerely for taking the time
for this interview.
