Voices of Innovation:
Meet the MOTIVATORS of MOTIVE
Q1. Hello, ‘CivilOnly20Years’. Please introduce yourself.
I am a civil engineer with over 20 years of experience in civil engineering design. I continue to work on design-related
projects due to my early years spent at a design company specializing in Design-Build/Alternative design.
I am also a professional civil/architectural structural engineer who is passionate about.. no, let me correct that, can ONLY do structural work.
Q2. What motivated you to participate in MOTIVE?
I was personally contacted by the person in charge of MOTIVE and after reviewing the contents, I decided to participate.
As someone who has relied on the help of others due to my own shortcomings, I wanted to share my experiences and offer something valuable.
Q3. What led you to choose the topic of pile foundation modeling?
While working in practice, I made many mistakes, but this particular topic was not one of them. Instead, it stemmed from my LACK of knowledge, which led me to provide separate training for employees. MOTIVE was the first place I thought of for publishing this content.
Q4. Have you ever documented your know-how in writing before?
No, I have not.
Q5. Did you face any difficulties while creating the content?
I believed that the knowledge was ingrained in my body because I had already acquired it through experience. However, when I attempted to write about it or provide examples, I was ashamed to realize that the content had become unclear and difficult to articulate.
Q6. Do you plan to create more content for MOTIVE?
I have some ideas, but due to my lack of competence, it may take some time.
Q7. What advice do you have for engineers who are hesitant to participate in MOTIVE?
There's a saying that knowledge grows when shared.
As someone who's not the greatest, I find that I need to experiment constantly to create designs that are both better and safer.
However, since our work is directly related to safety, we should avoid unnecessary risks. Sharing our trials and errors can benefit others.
Q8. Would you recommend MOTIVE participation to your colleagues?
Yes, I would recommend it for the same reasons I previously mentioned.
Q9. Some people may be concerned about the leakage of company or individual technologywhen sharing information and know-how through technical content. What is your opinion on this?
In the modern world, it may seem like there is nothing unique that only I can offer. With AI replacing the expertise of even highly specialized professionals, it can be challenging to find a niche. However, instead of dismissing new and diverse opportunities as beyond our capabilities, it can be beneficial for individuals and companies to approach them with an open mind and a willingness to learn through knowledge sharing.
Q10. What do you think about the purpose and direction of MOTIVE, which aims to be a place for information sharing and communication for engineers?
I strongly agree with the purpose and direction of MOTIVE.
Personally, I hope it will be successful and serve as a basis for my personal growth.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time
for this interview.
